Yeah Blackbird is an exception but one fund acting early isn’t enough for a healthy ecosystem, especially as Blackbird’s investment focus is relatively narrow.

The data suggests angel, seed and Series A investments are all taking at least five months to do in Australia right now. So it’s not just about whether investors invest at an early enough stage, it’s also about how quickly they act.

If there’s five investors engaged and only room for three in the deal, the deal should take less time to do. Every month a startup saves in the raising part of the cycle is another month added to the end of the runway, which when you think about it, is good for investors as well as founders.
