My template reply for most LinkedIn connection requests

Open sourcing this due to popular demand. LinkedIn keeps making it harder to do but I like to answer with a message rather than just hitting the ‘decline’ button.

Hi [Name], thanks for the LinkedIn connection request. I’m not going to accept it, but I’d like to explain why because it’s nothing personal.

I like to limit my network on LinkedIn to people I know well in the real world, people I have a real business connection with. That way I can show prospective clients/partners/investors/etc who’s in my real network, and who I can call upon to get stuff done.

But I don’t think it should be the way everybody else uses LinkedIn if they don’t want to.

So I’m grateful for the connection request. And if there was something specific you wanted to approach me about, drop me an email at [name@domain.com]

Hey, thanks for reading, here’s the 2018 edition of the template! — Alan.
