He’s Batman.

Not a word of a lie: the other day I was about to attempt a difficult ski run in Steamboat, rated double black. As I pulled up at the top of the run to marshal my courage, another skier pulled up next to me, dressed in full Batman costume.

I looked at him, he looked at me, and off we went. I figured: Batman will protect me.

On the way down I was replaying Batman’s line from the Lego Movie: “I only work in black… and sometimes in very, very dark grey”. Thinking, “He’s Batman. He only skies black runs… and very, very dark grey”. It kept me laughing, which probably kept me loose and kept me from falling.

We made it all the way to the bottom of the run together, skiing opposite sides of the run, like a dynamic duo. Pulled up a the the end of the run together, glanced at each other again, and didn’t say a word. Didn’t need to. He’s Batman.
